SBU Softball Ends Season at Missouri Southern

Joplin, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team ended their 2013 season against Missouri Southern on Monday afternoon. The Bearcats fell 3-2 in game one, followed by a 9-8 loss in game two.

In game on the Bearcats jumped ahead early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first off of Cendyl Carter rbi single bringing home Stef Lischke. Missouri Southern would score runs in the second and third to take a 2-1 before SBU fought back. In the top of the fourth Tiffany Bressner singled home Carter to tie the game up at 2-2. However, Missouri Southern would score a run fifth as SBU fell 3-2 in game one.

In game two SBU once again jumped ahead in the top of the first. With runners on second and third Carter hit an rbi groundout to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats would add another run in the fourth off of a Nikki Jeffries rbi single to go up 2-0. Two innings later SBU held a 2-1 lead when the Bearcats added two runs off of an Alandria Jensen double to give SBU a 4-1 lead. Missouri Southern responded in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-4 lead, but the Bearcats continued to fight. In the top of the sixth SBU added three runs off of an error to retake the lead at 7-5. The Lions once again responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up at 7-7. However, SBU continued to fight, taking an 8-7 lead off of an rbi double from Lyndie Routh. However, it wasn't enough as Missouri Southern responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as SBU fell 9-8.
