St. Charles, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team lost a high scoring affair at Lindenwood on Wednesday afternoon, dropping game one of the double header 20-2, followed by a 13-10 game two loss.
In game one the Bearcats fell behind 2-0 early, but were able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. After a single by
Landon Young and a walk from
Christian Binger,
Bo Helsel hit a sacrifice fly followed by a double from
Drew Miller to tie the game up at 2-2. However, Lindenwood would go on to score 18 unanswered runs as SBU fell 20-2 in game one.
In game two SBU jumped out to the early lead in in the top of the first.
Landon Young led the game off with a triple, and was brought home one batter later when
Christian Binger singled to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Lindenwood responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning before SBU added another run in the second.
The Bearcats loaded the bases in the top of the second inning when
Spencer Blacksher drew a bases loaded walk to pull SBU within one at 3-2. However, the Bearcats left the bases loaded for the second time in two innings. Lindenwood would promptly score seven straight runs, as the Bearcats went down 10-2. However, SBU continued to battle.
In the top of the fourth inning,
Josh Herrick doubled and was brought home by
Christian Binger to cut the lead to 10-3. SBU added two more runs in the following inning off of an rbi single from Will Swofford and a sacrifice fly by
Landon Young. However, Lindenwood quickly responded with two more runs of their own, as SBU fell behind 13-5.
The Bearcats would score the next five runs off of rbi hits from
Kyle Jochems and
Landon Young, but it wasn't enough as SBU fell 13-10 in game two.
Landon Young,
Christian Binger, and Will Swofford picked up four hits on the day, with Young scoring two runs and driving in three, while Binger picked up four rbi on the day.
Drew Miller and
Josh Herrick both picked up three hits on the day, while seven different Bearcats recorded rbi on the day.
SBU will continue their road trip as they travel to Kearney, Nebraska on Friday, April 26th to take on the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney. Opening pitch of game one of the double header is set for 4:00 p.m.
