St. Joseph, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team had an impressive showing at #13 Missouri Western on Tuesday evening, out-hitting the Griffons 9-4, but fell 0-2 in the single nine inning game.
The Bearcats played an impressive game all-around, but were unable to push across any runs to help out their excellent pitching on the day. Starting pitcher,
John Latham, came out and threw 4.0 hitless innings before Missouri Western scored a couple of runs. From the combined efforts of
Scott Huesemann,
Phillip Davolt, and
Zach Snodgrass the Bearcats held the Griffons scoreless for the remainder of the game.
SBU had multi-hit efforts from
Christian Binger and
Josh Herrick, while
Landon Young,
Bo Helsel,
Spencer Blacksher,
Jarod Robillard, and
Tyler Hampton all gave the Bearcat hits on the day.
"I thought our pitchers threw well against one of the, if not the best hitting teams in the country," head coach
Chris Martin stated after the game. "Missouri Western is one of the best teams in the country. We started four freshman, and I thought they held their own. We are anxious to get out there again tomorrow."
SBU will be back in action on Wednesday, April 3 when they are set to taking on Truman State in a double-header. Opening pitch from Kirksville, Missouri is set to take place at 12:00 p.m.
