SBU Baseball Scores 10 Runs to Finish off Series Against Washburn

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team put up 10 runs over the final two games of their series against Washburn, but suffered two one run losses on day. The Bearcats fell 9-8 in game one, while losing 3-2 in game two.

In the first game of the double-header SBU continued thier quick scoring by jumping ahead early on the Ichabods. In the top of the first inning after a Christian Binger walk and a Spencer Blacksher double, Bo Helsel then hit an rbi groundout to put the Bearcats up 1-0. SBU would tack on another run in the third when Blacksher smashed a two-out homerun to left field to give SBU a 2-0 lead. The Bearcats added another run in the fourth on an rbi single from Binger, bringing home Will Swofford, and extending SBU's lead to 3-0. Washburn would then score six unanswered runs before SBU would get back on the scoreboard in the seventh. After SBU loaded the bases with one out, Blacksher came home to score on a wild pitch, followed by a three-run homerun from Kyle Jochems to give the Bearcats a 7-6 lead. SBU would add one more run in the eighth when Ross Wolfe was credited with an rbi on a fielder's choice, but could not hold the lead as Washburn would eventually claim a 9-8 game one victory.

In game two of the double-header, a non-conference match-up between the two schools, the Bearcats once again suffered a one run loss. SBU was once again first to put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the third. With one out, Josh Herrick doubled down the left field line. Herrick would come around to score off of an Ichabod error on the next play to put SBU up 1-0. Washburn responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but the Bearcats would fight back in the top half of the seventh. With one out, Jared Robillard hit a game tying homerun to left field. However, Washburn would once again score the winning run in the bottom half of the final inning, as SBU fell 3-2 in game two.

The Bearcats will continue their road trip on Wednesday, April 17 when they travel to Lincoln University for a match-up with the Blue Tigers. Opening pitch of the double-header is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from Jefferson City, Missouri.
