4/13/2013 9:54:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Topeka, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University pitching was once again dominant on Saturday afternoon, shuting out Washburn in the baseball double-header 4-0 and 5-0. The Bearcats recieved complete game shut-out efforts from Dustin Caplette and Zack Winchester as they now move to 16-19 (14-14 MIAA).

In the game one victory, the Bearcats quickly jumped out ahead in the top of the first inning. Landon Young led the game off with a single to right field, and was brought home two batters later by an rbi double from Spencer Blacksher to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats would go on to load the bases in the same inning where Ross Wolfe would draw a bases loaded walk to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead. SBU added two more runs in the top half of the seventh inning when Bo Helsel singled through the right side with the bases load to extend the lead to 4-0. The four runs were plenty for starting pitcher Dustin Caplette, as he went on to throw a three-hit shutout while also striking out four batters on the evening.

In game two, the Bearcats recieved another solid effort from their starting pitching. Zack Winchester threw the second straight complete game shut-out, going 9.0 innings while allowing only 6 hits and striking out 6 batters. The Bearcats first got on the scoreboard in the top half of the third inning. The Bearcats loaded the bases with one out off of hits from Josh Herrick and Landon Young, and a walk from Christian Binger. Blacksher then hit a sacrifice fly to put SBU up 1-0, followed by a hit batsman, and a Drew Miller single to plate both Young and Binger to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead. The Bearcats added another run in the fifth, off of a Miller sacrifice fly, and a run in the seventh, off of a Wolfe sacrifice fly, to go on to claim a 5-0 game two victory.

Spencer Blacksher had a solid day at the plate, going 5-8 on the day with a couple of runs and rbi, while Landon Young went 4-8 combined between the two games.

SBU will quickly return to action on Sunday, April 14 when they close out their series at Washburn. The first game, a nine inning MIAA game, is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a non-conference seven inning match-up.
