Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team had a tough afternoon against Northeastern State, dropping game one 1-6 and game two 3-8.

In game one, Northeastern State jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning. In the bottom of the second, Spencer Blacksher hammered a solo homerun off of the scoreboard in left field, tying the game up at 1-1. However, Northeastern State would score five unanswered runs, taking game one 1-6.

In game two, NSU once again jumped ahead, taking a 3-0 lead after two and a half innings. In the bottom of the third inning, the Bearcats were able to put a couple of runs on the scoreboard. After a walk and a single, Ross Wolfe and Spencer Blacksher had back-to-back rbi singles to pull SBU within one at 2-3. After three scoreless innings, the Riverhawks added four runs in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh the Bearcats loaded the bases when Bo Helsel drew an walk to bring home Jesse Skaggs. However the Bearcats ended up falling 3-8 in game two.

The Bearcats collected 17 hits over the two games, fueled by Landon Young and Drew Miller's three hits. Blacksher hit his first homerun  on the season, while Wolfe and Helsel also collected rbi's on the day. Helsel extended his hit streak to 20 games with a single in the first game, but his streak was snapped at 20 as he went 0-3 with a walk in game two.

"Credit Northeastern State for coming in and playing well," head coach Chris Martin stated. "I thought they played more confidently than we did and thus, executed better. Tomorrow is another opportunity for us. We'll come out and give our best effort."

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, March 9 when they close out their series with the Riverhawks. Opening pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. from Dodson Field.
