SBU Men's Basketball Travels to Central Oklahoma for First Round of the MIAA Tournament

Bolivar, Mo. - SBU will travel to Central Oklahoma for the first round of the MIAA Postseason Tournament for a match-up against the Bronchos.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 165-97 (.630) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Terry Evans is 208-90 in 10 years at UCO and has directed the Bronchos to seven national tournament appearances, including one Elite Eight and one Sweet 16. He also led the team to six Lone Star Conference North Division titles and two overall league crowns during Central's association with that league.

The series between Southwest Baptist and Central Oklahoma is tied 4-4. The Bronchos won the only match-up of the year between the two schools 88-82 earlier this year in Bolivar.

Scouting the Bearcats
SBU is set to compete in the first round of the MIAA Tournament, with a chance to advance to Kansas City for the remainder of the tournament. The Bearcats are led in scoring by Damion Hooks averages 15.2 ppg while shooting 55.9% from the field, while Preston Guiot averages 12.7 ppg and 6.3 apg. Gilbert Gyamfi and Rashaad Brown-Peterson both average over ten points a game at 10.3 and 10.0 respectively.

Scouting the Bronchos
Central Oklahoma comes into the MIAA Tournament 13-13 (11-7 MIAA). The Bronchos finished off the regular season with a 76-65 win over Missouri Southern. The Bronchos are led in scoring by Josh Gibbs who averages 17.5 points per game and a team high 6.3 rebounds per game. Spencer Smith also averages double-figures at 13.2 points per game, and Jamell Cormier averages 10.9 ppg.

• SBU is one of only two teams in the MIAA to play all Division II schools prior to MIAA competition.

Preston Guiot tied the MIAA record for 3-Point FG Percentage in a game when he went 7-7 against Alaska-Fairbanks on 11/23.

Damion Hooks ranks 7th in the MIAA in Field Goal Percentage, shooting 55.9% on the year, and ranks 12th in Scoring (15.2 ppg)

Preston Guiot ranks 2nd in the MIAA in assists (6.3/G), 2nd in the MIAA in Free Throw Percentage (88.6%), 2nd in 3-Point FG made (2.7/G), 5th in Assist/Turnover Ratio (2.0), and 25th in Scoring (12.7 ppg).

• As a team, SBU ranks 2nd in 3-Point FG made (8.2/g), 2nd in the MIAA in assists (15.2 apg), and 7th in Free Throw Percentage (72.6%).
