Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team earned a double-header split against Fort Hays on Friday afternoon. The Bearcats took game one 5-1, while falling 4-13 in game two. SBU now moves to 10-15 (10-11 MIAA) on the season.
In game one Fort Hays jumped out to a 1-0 lead after an inning and a half. In the bottom of the fourth, the Bearcats broke the game open with five runs in the inning.
Bo Helsel led the inning off with a single to right field, while
Spencer Blacksher drew a walk two batters later.
Ross Wolfe then doubled to right center to bring home Helsel and tie the game up at 1-1. After
Kyle Jochems reached on catcher's interference, and a strikeout,
Aaron Anderson singled to centerfield to plate both Blacksher and Wolfe, pushing SBU's lead to 3-1.
Landon Young then doubled down the left field line, clearing the bases, and giving SBU a 5-1 lead. The five runs were plenty for
Justin Pasichnyk as he threw a complete game, allowing only one run on six hits.
In game two, Fort Hays once again took a 1-0 lead before the Bearcats battled back. In the bottom of the second inning,
Drew Miller led the inning off with a single through the right side, and was brought home a couple of batters later when Jochems singled to right field to tie the game up at 1-1. Fort Hays would then score 11 straight runs before the Bearcats were able to put more runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs in the inning,
Seth Hopwood reached on an error by the shortstop, and was brought home on a Blacksher triple. Wolfe then singled to centerfield, to bring home Blacksher, and Jochems doubled down the left field line to plate Wolfe. However it wasn't enough as SBU fell 4-13 in game two.
Landon Young and
Ross Wolfe both collected three hits in game one for the Bearcats, while
Aaron Anderson,
Spencer Blacksher, and
Kyle Jochems all picked up two-hit games. SBU saw RBI's from Young, Wolfe, Anderson, Blacksher, and Jochems on the afternoon.
The Bearcats will return to the field on Saturday, March 30 to wrap up the three-game series against Fort Hays. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
