Emporia, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team picked up a double-header split at Emporia State on Friday afternoon, taking a 4-3 game one victory while falling 1-9 in the second game.
In game one the Bearcats were quick to get on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning.
Landon Young started the game off with a single up the middle and was sacrificed over to second. After another out,
Drew Miller hit an rbi single to centerfield, bringing home Young, and giving SBU a 1-0 lead. After a single by
Bo Helsel,
Kyle Jochems hit an rbi single to centerfield to put SBU up 2-0.
Spencer Blacksher then doubled down the left field line, bringing home Helsel, followed by a walk from
Tyler Hampton, and an rbi infield single by
Aaron Anderson to give the Bearcats a 4-0 lead after one half of an inning.
Dustin Caplette pitched a solid game for the Bearcats on the mound, throwing 6.0 innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on only five hits.
Jacob Sullinger came into the game in the seventh, throwing a scoreless inning to pick up his first save of the year.
In game two SBU jumped out to a 1-0 lead off of a Helsel rbi single, but Emporia State would score the next nine runs as the Bearcats fell 1-9 in game two of the double header.
Blacksher and Young led the way offensively with four hits a piece on the day. Miller, Jochems, Blacksher, Young, and Helsel all picked up RBI's for the Bearcats on the day.
SBU will close out their series against the Hornets on Saturday, March 23. Opening pitch from Emporia, Kansas is set for 12:00 p.m.
