Brittney Dukes has Game High 23 Points in 64-71 Loss at Missouri Western

St. Joseph, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 64-71 loss at Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats battled back from being down by as many as 11 in the first half, but ultimately weren't able to pull out the road victory.

The Bearcats and Griffons played a close first half, as neither team led by more than five points throughout the first 10 minutes of the contest. With seven minutes left in the first half, the Griffons took an 8 points lead, but the Bearcats cut the lead back down to 2 with an 8-2 run, but would go into halftime down 26-32.

In the second half Missouri Western built their lead back to 11 before the Bearcats once again started to chip away at the lead. After being down 36-45, SBU went on an 11-0 run to take the lead at 47-45 off of a Brittney Dukes three pointer. However, the Griffons slowly built their lead back up as SBU dropped the contest 64-71.

Jacqui Zelenka continued her impressive season, giving the Bearcats her third straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Brittney Dukes scored a game high 23 points in her final regular season contest of her career, while Chasity Prince scored 11 points while pulling down 9 rebounds. As a team SBU shot 41.8% from the field, 38.1% from beyond the arc, and 62.5% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats will hit the road for the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Tuesday, March 5. The Bearcats earned the 12th seed in the tournament and will travel to Kirksville, Missouri to take on the 5th seeded Bulldogs of Truman State.
