Lamkins and Jensen Homer for SBU Against Ottawa

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team blasted two homeruns on Tuesday afternoon against Ottawa, but weren't able to pull out a victory, dropping game one 5-6 and game two 2-5. Alandria Jensen and Tori Lamkins both homered for SBU during the double header.

In game one with a scoreless tie in the second inning Tori Lamkins hit a solo homerun over the left field wall to put SBU up 1-0. One inning later, Lamkins singled to left field to bring home Londyn Backfisch to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead. Ottawa would add six runs in the top of the sixth inning before SBU started to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh. With two outs and runners on first and second, Alandria Jensen hit her second homerun on the year, sending the ball over the left field fence, to pull SBU within one at 5-6. However the Bearcats weren't able to add another as they fell in game one 5-6.

In game two SBU fell behind 1-0 after three and a half innings before they would take their first lead of the game. In the bottom of the fourth inning Lyndie Routh and Lamkins had back-to-back singles, followed by a sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third with one out. Caitlyn Cooner and Stacie Davis had back-to-back rbi singles to put SBU up 2-1. Ottawa would go on to score four answered runs, as SBU would end up losing game two 2-5.

The Bearcats quickly return to action on Wednesday, March 20 when they host Emporia State for an MIAA double header. Opening pitch against ESU is set for 1:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
