SBU Baseball Falls to Pittsburg State 2-5 to Close out the Series

Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team lost the final game of their series against Pittsburg State 2-5 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Spencer Blacksher continued his hot hitting by hitting his second homerun on the season, a shot over the right field wall, to give SBU the lead. Pittsburg State responded in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 1-2 lead. SBU once again battled back in the top of the sixth inning. Ross Wolfe led the inning off with a single to left, and was advanced to third where Kyle Jochems singled him home to tie the game up at 2-2. PSU would score the final three runs of the day as SBU fell 2-5 to close out the series.

Spencer Blacksher and Ross Wolfe led the way for the Bearcats with two hits each, while Jochems added an rbi single for SBU. Zack Winchester threw a solid game on the mound, throwing six innings while allowing three runs on fits hits.

SBU will return home on Tuesday, March 19 when they are set to host Drury University. Opening pitch against the Panthers is set for 12:00 p.m.
