Box Score 2 Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team split the double header against Pittsburg State on Friday afternoon, claiming a 9-4 game two victory after falling 6-7 in game one.
In game two Pittsburg State put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the first, and would hold a 1-0 lead through the first two and a half innings. In the bottom of the third SBU put up their first run of the game.
Spencer Blacksher led off the inning with a double down the left field line, was sacrificed to third, and came home on an rbi single by
Aaron Anderson to tie the game up at 1-1. The Gorillas would add two runs over the next two innings before the SBU offense put up five runs in the top of the fifth.
The Bearcats loaded the bases off of a single and a couple of hit batsman before Blacksher came home on a wild pitch to pull SBU within one at 2-3. The Bearcats tacked on another run off of a PSU error before
Ross Wolfe hit a three-run homerun to left field to put SBU up 6-3. The Bearcats continued to push with runners on first and second Anderson singled to right center to bring home Blacksher. The Bearcats added another run one batter later when
Landon Young hit an rbi single to right center to put SBU up 8-3. The Bearcats would add another run in the seventh off of a
Kyle Jochems rbi double and go on to claim a 9-5 game two victory.
Dustin Caplette gave SBU a solid game on the mound, pitching a complete game while allowing five runs (four earned) and striking out 7 to claim the victory.
In game one the Bearcats quickly got on the scoreboard. In the top of the first inning the Bearcats got an rbi single from
Bo Helsel to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third innings the Bearcats continued to build their lead. After an error and a walk,
Drew Miller singled up the middle to put SBU up 2-0. The Bearcats then loaded the bases where
Spencer Blacksher hit a grandslam to right field to put the Bearcats up 6-0. However, Pittsburg State would score seven striaght runs as SBU fell 6-7 in game one.
Ross Wolfe and Spenser Blacksher led the scoring attack for the Bearcats on the day, each one giving SBU a homerun.
Aaron Anderson,
Drew Miller, and
Bo Helsel all collected multiple hits for the Bearcats on the day.
The Bearcats will conclude their series agains the Gorillas on Saturday, March 16. The final game in the series is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from Pittsburg, Kansas.
