Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team had a tough match-up at Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon, dropping the contest 61-74.
Jacqui Zelenka led the Bearcats, giving SBU her 12th double-double on the season.
SBU and Pittsburg State played a tight game from the beginning. After SBU went down early,
Jacqui Zelenka pulled down an offensive board and put back a layup to take a 9-8 lead with 15:04 left in the first half. Pittsburg State would slowly build their lead, as SBU went into the half down 25-39. The second half started out slow for both teams, with the first bucket in the second half coming almost four minutes into the half. The Bearcats and Gorillas would both support runs throughout the second half, as SBU ended up falling to the Gorillas 61-74.
Jacqui Zelenka had her 12th double-double on the season with 19 points and tying a career high 14 rebounds.
Brook Duncan had 18 points off the bench, hitting 5 three's, while
Brittney Dukes had 10 points and a career high 8 assists. As a team SBU shot 31.7% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc, and 86.7% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will continue their road trip when they travel to Truman State on Thursday, February 14. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from Kirksville, Missouri.
