SBU Men's Basketball Set to Take on the Gorillas of Pittsburg State on Saturday

Bolivar, Mo. - SBU will continue their four game road trip when they travel to Pittsburg State to take on the Gorillas. The Bearcats are coming off of a 91-100 loss at Missouri Southern and are now 7-13 (5-7 MIAA).

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 164-94 (.636) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Kevin Muff enters his third year as head basketball coach at Pittsburg State University. Muff has compiled a 30-27 (.526) record in his short tenure at Pitt State. He led the Gorillas to a 17-14 record and a berth in the finals of the MIAA Postseason Tournament in 2012.

SBU leads the all-time series against the Gorillas 29-27, with SBU claiming an 73-65 victory last time these two teams met in Pittsburg.

Scouting the Bearcats
SBU is in game two of a four game road trip. The Bearcats are led in scoring by Damion Hooks averages 12.5 ppg while shooting 55.5% from the field, while Preston Guiot averages 12.2 ppg and 5.4 apg. Gilbert Gyamfi and Rashaad Brown-Peterson both average over nine points a game at 10.6 and 9.1 respectively.

Scouting the Gorillas
Pittsburg State is coming off of a 79-75 win over Truman and are now 14-6 (7-5 MIAA). PSU is led in scoring by Kaleb Porter who is averaging 13.6 points per game. JaVon McGee leads the team in rebounding (7.4 rpg) and also averages 12.4 ppg, while Courtney Ingram averages 11.3 ppg.

• SBU is one of only two teams in the MIAA to play all Division II schools prior to MIAA competition.

Preston Guiot tied the MIAA record for 3-Point FG Percentage in a game when he went 7-7 against Alaska-Fairbanks on 11/23.

Damion Hooks ranks 6th in the MIAA in Field Goal Percentage, shooting 55.5% on the year, and ranks 27th in Scoring (12.5 ppg)

Preston Guiot ranks 3rd in the MIAA in assists, dishing out 5.4 per game.

• Guiot also ranks 2nd in the MIAA in 3-Point FG made (2.7/G), 6th in Assist/Turnover Ratio (2.0), and 29th in Scoring (12.2 ppg).

• As a team, SBU ranks 2nd in 3-Point FG made (8.3/g), 3rd in the MIAA in assists (14.8 apg), and 7th in Free Throw Percentage (71.3%).

Gilbert Gyamfi ranks 13th in the MIAA in Free Throw Percentage (79.7%).
