Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team a tough night against Lincoln on Tuesday, dropping the game to the Blue Tigers 61-73.
Jacqui Zelenka gave the Bearcats a solid effort on the boards, collecting a career high 22 in the loss.
Coming out of the gate the Blue Tigers held an early 6-2 lead before the Bearcats battled back to tie the game up at 7-7 off of a pair of free throws from Zelenka, while the Bearcats took a two point lead (11-9) a couple of plays later off of a Zelenka lay-up. Lincoln responded by pushing their lead to eight (17-25) before the Bearcats were able to cut it back down to five at 26-31 going into the break.
In the second half the Bearcats came out and cut the lead to three (28-31) after a
Brittney Dukes jumper, but the Blue Tigers held their ground. Lincoln would slowly build their lead, and the Bearcats would eventually lose the contest 61-73.
Jacqui Zelenka and
Brittney Dukes both had solid games for the Bearcats. Zelenka scored 19 points and dished out five assists to go along with a career high 22 rebounds, while Dukes scored a team high 22 points.
Chasity Prince bairly missed a double-double of her own, scoring 7 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. As a team SBU shot 31.5% from the field, 23.8% from beyond the arc, and 71.4% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will conclude their home portion of the schedule on Saturday, February 23 when they play host to #7 Central Missouri. Tip-off for senior night is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Wellness Center in Bolivar.
