Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team won a high scoring affair on Tuesday evening in Bolivar, taking down the Blue Tigers of Lincoln 107-103.
The Bearcats were first to get on the scoreboard when Afamefuna Obekwelu made a lay-up to give SBU a 2-0 lead. The Bearcats opened up the game with a 10-3 run, and would push their lead to ten (15-5) with 13:36 to go in the first half. The Bearcats continued to push, going on 15-4 run to extend their lead to 18 (25-7) with 10:34 left in the half. After pushing their lead to 19, the Blue Tigers would go on a run to cut the lead to four before SBU would push it back to double-figures, going into the half up 49-39.
The Bearcats and Blue Tigers would continue the scoring frenzy in the second half, as Lincoln would slowly start to chip away at the Bearcat lead. The Bearcats would find themselves down one (64-65) with 13:01 left in the contest before building up another small lead. After the Blue Tigers once again tied the game up at 73-73 (9:30),
Preston Guiot took over. Guiot would respond by scoring the next 10 points as part of a 15-0 run that put the Bearcats up 88-73. The Bearcats extended their lead back to 17 (99-82) with 3:23 left in the contest and would hold on for a 107-103 victory.
Preston Guiot led the way for the Bearcats with a career high 29 points and a career high 14 assists, giving Guiot his first double-double on the season.
Damion Hooks also gave SBU his first career double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while
Rashaad Brown-Peterson scored 23 points.
Gilbert Gyamfi also came close to giving SBU a double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds. As a team SBU shot 56.3% from the field, 34.6% from beyond the arc, and 76.5% from the line.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, February 23 when they host Central Missouri. Tip-off for senior night is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
