Box Score St. Charles, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team picked up a huge 68-62 victory over Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon as SBU closes out their four game road trip. With the victory the Bearcats move to 10-13 (5-10 MIAA).
The Bearcats and Lady Lions played an extremely tight first half, with neither team leading by more than three points. The first half saw 13 lead changes and five ties as the Bearcats and Lady Lions were tied 34-34 going into the half. Coming out of the half, Lindenwood held a slight lead for the first eight minutes of the second half but the Bearcats never let them get out of reach. With 12:05 left in the contest,
Jacqui Zelenka hit a layup to give SBU their first lead in the second half at 42-41. The back-and-forth battle continued for the next five minutes before SBU started to pull away. Down three (45-48) with 8:55 to go in the game the Bearcats put together a 12-4 run to go up 57-52 with 5:09 left in the contest. The Bearcats were able to maintain their lead for the remainder of the contest, as
Brittney Dukes went 6-6 from the free throw line in the final 1:22 of the game, as SBU went on to a 68-62 victory.
Brittney Dukes and
Brook Duncan led the way for the Bearcats with 16 points a piece. Dukes was a perfect 6-6 from the line while Duncan hit four three's to help propel SBU to their tenth victory of the season.
Jacqui Zelenka gave SBU 13 points and 7 rebounds, while
Chasity Prince had 11. As a team, SBU shot 46.3% from the field, 34.6% from beyond the arc, and 69.2% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will return home on Tuesday, February 19 when they host Lincoln University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
