Bolivar, Mo. - Coming off of SBU's must successful season since 2006, Coach Martin led his team to a 21-28-1 record. SBU ended their season with 14 MIAA conference wins (school record) and finished 9th in the MIAA. Last season junior catcher
Drew Miller was named first team All-MIAA, 2nd team All-Region, and National Hitter of the Week. Returning this season along side Miller is senior pitcher
Jacob Sullinger who was an All-MIAA Honorable Mention selection.
The Bearcats open their season February 14 against the University of Central Oklahoma who is ranked fourth in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll. Central Oklahoma leads the all-time series against the Bearcats 8-0, with the Bronchos claiming all three victories last season.
Last year against UCO,
Tyler Christophel jump-started the Bearcats offensive against the Broncho's in game one with a two-run home run to bring SBU with in striking distance. In game two and three Christophel continued his hot hitting going 9 and 9 with 5 stolen bases.
The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats enter the season ranked thirteenth in the 2013 MIAA baseball preseason coaches poll. Central Missouri is projected to win the MIAA, collecting 21 votes over projected runner-up Missouri Western.
The MIAA is represented by #9 Central Missouri in the NCAA Division II national rankings. With Missouri Western and Emporia State also receiving votes.
Central Missouri dropped down to number nine in the ranking from seventh after a loss to Texas A&M University in their opening game of the season.
