SBU Men's Basketball Looks to Extend Win Streak at Truman State on Thursday

Bolivar, Mo. - SBU will continue their four game road trip when they travel to Truman State to take on the Bulldogs. The Bearcats are coming off of a 81-75 come-from-behind victory over Pittsburg State and are now 8-13 (6-7 MIAA).

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 165-94 (.637) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Matt Woodley begins his second season at the helm of the Truman men's basketball program after being named the 11th head coach in program history prior to the 2011-2012 season. In his first season, Woodley guided the Bulldogs to an 8-20 record and an eighth-place finish in the MIAA.

SBU leads the all-time series against Truman State 29-19, with the Bearcats claiming the last victory at SBU 76-73 earlier this year.

Scouting the Bearcats
SBU hits the halfway point of their road trip as they travel to Truman State on Thursday. The Bearcats are led in scoring by Damion Hooks averages 12.9 ppg while shooting 55.0% from the field, while Preston Guiot averages 12.5 ppg and 5.4 apg. Gilbert Gyamfi and Rashaad Brown-Peterson both average over nine points a game at 10.3 and 9.3 respectively.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Truman State has lost four straight games, and comes into the contest 7-14 (4-9 MIAA). The Bulldogs have three players who average in double figures. Mike Carlson leads the way averaging 16.3 ppg and a team high 6.4 rpg. Tom Norton (13.3 ppg) and Seth Jackson (11.5 ppg) both average in double figures as well.

Preston Guiot tied the MIAA record for 3-Point FG Percentage in a game when he went 7-7 against Alaska-Fairbanks on 11/23.

Damion Hooks ranks 7th in the MIAA in Field Goal Percentage, shooting 55.0% on the year, and ranks 22nd in Scoring (12.9 ppg)

Preston Guiot ranks 3rd in the MIAA in assists, dishing out 5.4 per game.

• Guiot also ranks 1st in the MIAA in Free Throw Percentage (89.6%), 2nd in 3-Point FG made (2.7/G), 6th in Assist/Turnover Ratio (2.0), and 28th in Scoring (12.5 ppg).

• As a team, SBU ranks 2nd in 3-Point FG made (8.4/g), 3rd in the MIAA in assists (14.9 apg), and 6th in Free Throw Percentage (72.2%).
