Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist returns home to open up MIAA conference play on Thursday by hosting #20 Washburn. Thursday marks the beginning of a three game homestand for the Bearcats.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his third season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 131-67 career coaching record (23-35 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Ron McHenry is in his 14th season as the head coach at Washburn, helping lead the Ichabods to two straight MIAA titles. McHenry holds a career coaching record of 342-71 (.828) and he has the highest winning percentage among active NCAA Division II coaches with at least 10 years of experience.
Washburn leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 34-11. The Ichabods claimed a 71-65 double overtime victory over the Bearcats last season.
Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist stands at 3-2 on the season after earning a split last weekend at the UWF Thanksgiving Tournament. The Bearcats defeated Montevallo 86-82 before falling to host West Florida 81-76.
Brook Duncan leads the way for the Bearcats, averaging an MIAA high 21.4 points per game, while
Jacqui Zelenka averages 10.3 points per game and a team high 6.8 rebounds per game.
Dilonna Johnson,
Mackenzie Skupa, and Leann Lansdown all average over seven points per game at 9.4, 7.4, and 7.0 respectively.
Scouting the Ichabods
Washburn comes into the game against Southwest Baptist with a 4-2 record. The Ichabods are coming off of a 97-65 victory over Benedictine as they close out their non-conference schedule.
Casyn Buchman is the leading scorer for WU, averaging 20.5 points per game along with 6.2 rebounds per game and 4.7 assists per game. Janelle Travis (13.0 ppg), Kara Lee (12.0 ppg), Brittney Lynch (11.2 ppg and 8.8 rpg), and Honor Duvall (11.0 ppg) all average double-figures for the Ichabods.
