SBU's Comeback Bid Falls Short in 75-67 Loss at ESU

Box Score Emporia, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team fell just short at Emporia State on Wednesday night, 75-67. After trailing by 8 at half, the Bearcats were unable to overcome a late second half deficit in the loss. SBU now moves to 8-4 (1-2 MIAA) while Emporia State improves to 8-4 (1-1 MIAA).

The Bearcats and Hornets played a tight game throughout a majority of the first half with SBU holding a one point lead (29-28) with 7:08 to go in the first half. Emporia State slowly started to build a lead over the final five minutes of the first half as the Bearcats went into the half down 42-34. In the second half the Bearcats used a 14-4 run early in the half to regain the lead at 51-50. Over the next four minutes the two teams exchanged leads before Emporia State started to slowly build a small lead once again. The Bearcats were unable to overcome Emporia State, falling 75-67.

Rashaad Brown-Peterson led SBU with a team high 18 points with 5 rebounds, while Menas Stephens had 13 points while hitting 3 three's. Preston Guiot and Derrick Stewart each dished out a team high 7 assists, while Desi Barmore pulled down a team high 8 rebounds. As a team SBU shot 40.0% from the field, 42.1% from beyond the arc, and 64.7% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, December 21 when they travel to Pittsburg, Kansas to take on Pittsburg State. Tip-off against the Gorillas is set for 3:30 p.m.
