Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist University hits the road for their first MIAA road contest when they travel to #3 Emporia State on Wednesday.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his third season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 133-68 career coaching record (25-36 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Jory Collins is in his 3rd season as the head coach at Emporia State. In his first two seasons he has led Emporia State to two MIAA Tournament Championship games and one trip to the NCAA Sweet 16. He holds a career coaching record of 61-26.
Emporia State leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 32-12. Emporia State claimed their last meeting 65-59 at SBU during the 2012-13 season.
Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist stands at 5-3 (1-1 MIAA) on the season after coming off of a 74-70 victory over William Jewell College.
Brook Duncan leads the way for the Bearcats, averaging 18.0 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, while
Jacqui Zelenka averages 10.8 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Dilonna Johnson is also in double figures for the Bearcats, averaging 10.9 points per game to go a long with 5.4 assists per game.
Scouting the Hornets
Emporia State comes into the game against Southwest Baptist with a perfect 9-0 (1-0 MIAA) record on the season. The Hornets defeated #11 West Texas A&M 78-64 last time out.
Laura Patrick leads all ESU scorers, averaging 14.8 ppg and 6.1 rpg. Kionna Kellog and Merissa Quick both average double figures at 11.2 ppg and 10.8 ppg respectively. The Hornets have five players averaging over 6.0 rebounds per game, and have out-rebounded their opponents by an averages of 17.7 rebounds per game.
