Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team takes a break from MIAA play when they host William Jewell on Saturday.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his third season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 132-68 career coaching record (24-36 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Jill Cress is in her 18th season as the head coach at William Jewell. Cress holds a career coaching record of 355-207 (.632).
Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against William Jewell 10-5. The Bearcats have won the last four against the Cardinals, including a 93-46 victory their last time out.
Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist stands at 4-3 (1-1 MIAA) on the season after coming off of a 85-66 victory over Nebraska-Kearney last week.
Brook Duncan leads the way for the Bearcats, averaging 18.6 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game, while
Jacqui Zelenka averages 10.3 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game.
Dilonna Johnson is also in double figures for the Bearcats, averaging 11.3 points per game to go a long with 5.3 assists per game.
Scouting the Cardinals
William Jewell comes into the game against Southwest Baptist with a 6-2 (1-0 GLVC) record. Jewell has won four straight games, with their most recent victory coming from a 103-41 defeat of Central Christian College of the Bible.
Chelsea Meeks averages a team high 17.1 points per game, while Cassy Nicolay (13.4 ppg) and Hayli Jo Smith (10.4 ppg) both average double figures. Aerial Smith averages a team high 3.4 assists per game, while Nicolay averages a team high 5.9 rebounds per game.
