Box Score St. Louis, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team picked up their second straight victory as they defeated Maryville on Saturday afternoon 87-80.
Preston Guiot and
Desi Barmore both posted double-doubles in the non-conference victory.
In the first half Maryville quickly jumped out to a 6-0 victory, the largest lead held by the Saints all day, before SBU would take a 3 point lead (12-9) with 14:13 left in the first half. The Bearcats would never trail again in the game, and went into the half up 36-35. Coming out of halftime, SBU pushed their lead to eight as both teams played back-and-forth with SBU holding the advantage. SBU pushed their lead to a game high 11 points with 2:31 left in the game, as they went on to an 87-80 victory.
Rashaad Brown-Peterson once again led SBU offensively, giving the Bearcats a game high 22 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field.
Preston Guiot recorded his first double-double of the season with 19 points and a season high 10 assists, while
Desi Barmore had his first career double-double with 15 points and a career high 11 rebounds.
Afam Obukwelu also had 14 points, as they SBU starters accounted for 70 of the 87 points scored. As a team, SBU shot 59.6% from the field, 42.1% from beyond the arc, and 52.4% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats return home on Tuesday, November 26 when they host Barclay College. Tip is set for 7:00 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
