SBU Women Cruise in 67-48 Victory over Illinois-Springfield

Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist (1-1) cruised to a 67-48 victory over Illinois-Springfield (0-2) on Saturday evening. The Bearcats held a small advantage at the half, but pulled away throughout the second half for their first victory of the young season.

Coming out to start the game, Brook Duncan led an SBU attack that quickly jumped out to a 17-4 lead six minutes into the contest. Duncan gave SBU 13 of their first 17 points en route to a 21 point performance on the evening. However, the Prairie Stars hung around in the first half, cutting the lead down to as little as four, as the Bearcats took a 30-24 lead heading into the break.

After halftime SBU started the second half on a 5-0 run to push their lead back to double-digits at 35-24. The Bearcat maintained a double-digit lead for a majority of the second half, and led by as many as 21, before cruising to a 67-48 victory.

Brook Duncan had her second twenty point performance in as many games, giving SBU a game high 21 points while hitting five three's. Jacqui Zelenka was the leading rebounder for the Bearcats, pulling down 8 boards to go along with 9 points and 6 assists while Leann Lansdown also had 9 points with 7 rebounds. The Bearcats forced 17 Prairie Star turnovers, while shooting 40.7% from the field, 42.9% from beyond the arc, and 91.7% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats are back in action on Tuesday, November 19 to close out their home stand by hosting Rockhurst. The game is set tip at 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
