Jefferson City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team fell to Lincoln 51-28 on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the 2013 season. The Bearcats finish the year with a 1-10 (1-9 MIAA) record as they move to GLVC next season.
Lincoln jumped out early, scoring the first two touchdowns of the game in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead. The Bearcats responded right before the end of the first quarter with a 3 yard touchdown run from
Marcus Strickland to cut the lead to 14-7. After forcing a three-and-out,
Derwyn Lauderdale returned the Lincoln punt 57 yards for his first return touchdown of the season to tie the game up at 14-14. The SBU defense once again forced a three-and-out, and the SBU offense scored their second touchdown of the day off of a 7 yard pass from
Joey Dominguez to
Evan Ray to give the Bearcats a 21-14 lead. In the following drive, Lincoln tied the game up at 21-21, sending the game into the half tied.
In the second half, Lincoln struck first with a 37 yard field goal to give the Blue Tigers a 24-21 lead. The Bearcats responded on the following drive with
Marcus Strickland's second rushing touchdown of the game to put the Bearcats back ahead at 28-24. However, Lincoln would score 27 unanswered points, all in the fourth quarter, as the Bearcats would end up falling 51-28.
Joey Dominguez had his first career 300 yard passing day, throwing for 302 yards with 1 touchdown.
Zachary Sohn led the Bearcat receivers with 85 yards on four receptions, while Dominguez had a team high 50 rushing yards. Defensively,
Derrick Fofanah led the way with 12 tackles while
Shaquille Shedd and
Ivan Hodges both had 9 a piece.
