Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats are in the middle of a three game home stretch as they take on Illinois-Springfield after falling 77-76 against Drury earlier in the week.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his third season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 128-65 career coaching record (20-33 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Chad Oletzke is in his second season at UIS after going 9-17 last season. Oletzke began coaching at the collegiate level at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota, serving as an assistant women's basketball coach for four years. While with the Mustangs, SMSU posted three 20-win seasons, garnered two Northern Sun Conference Championships, and made two NCAA Division II postseason appearances.
SBU leads the all-time series against Illinois-Springfield 1-0 after claiming a 43-34 last season. The 34 points SBU allowed were the fewest allowed in a game in the history of the program.
Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats are currently 0-1 after dropping their season opener to Drury 77-76.
SBU has five players averaging more than seven points after their first game of the season.
Brook Duncan leads the way averaging 23.0 points per game and 12.0 rebounds per game, followed by
Dilonna Johnson (16.0),
Morgan Lucy (9.0),
Jacqui Zelenka (8.0), and Leann Lansdown (7.0).
Scouting the Prairie Stars
Illinois-Springfield opens up their regular season on Friday against Missouri Western.
In their lone exhibition match-up, UIS was led in scoring by Megan Bergerud who had 15 points, while Elizabeth Kelly pulled down a team high 10 rebounds in their 74-50 loss to Bradley.
