Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team fell to #15 Washburn on Saturday afternoon 44-21.
The Ichabods were the first to get on the scoreboard, scoring twice in the first quarter take a 14-0 lead heading into the second quarter. SBU was able to get on the scoreboard when
Johnathan Drury picked off a pass at the line of scrimmage and returned it 26 yards for his first career interception returned for a touchdown. Washburn responded with a score of their own in the second quarter, but SBU had a chance to pull back within seven right before halftime.
Willie Tindal found
Nehemiah Gross open in the middle of the field for a 54 yard catch and run, followed by a 16 yard pass to
Derwyn Lauderdale to put SBU on Washburn's two-yardline. The Bearcats weren't able to capitolize, and they failed to find the endzone, and went into the half trailing 21-7.
The Bearcats were the first to strike in the third quarter when Tindal found
Zachary Sohn open down the middle of the field on an 11 yard strike to pull SBU back within seven at 21-14. However, Washburn scored 17 straight points to push their lead to 38-14. SBU found the endzone one more time off of a 5 yard touchdown run from Tindal, but it wasn't enough as SBU fell 44-21.
Willie Tindal led the SBU offensive attack, throwing for 230 yards and a touchdown, while the Bearcats had only 13 rushing yards on the day. Defensively
Johnathan Drury had a pick six to go along with five tackles on the day.
Antwaun Lewis had 11 tackles and
Antion McBee had 10 tackles, while
Evan Ray and
Nathaniel Belak both had forced fumbles.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, October 12 when they travel to #24 Emporia State. The game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Emporia, Kansas.
