Emporia, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University football team had a tough contest at #23 Emporia State on Saturday, losing the game 63-17.
Emporia State was quick to jump out to an early lead, going ahead 21-0 after the first quarter. After another Hornet touchdown, the Bearcats first got on the scoreboard with a 5 yard touchdown run from
Robert McWright as SBU trailed 28-7. Emporia State would score four more touchdowns, as SBU trailed going into the fourth quarter 49-10. The Bearcats would add another score in the fourth quarter on a 9 yard touchdown reception by
Zachary Sohn from
Joey Dominguez, but SBU ultimately fell 63-17 in the game.
SBU saw two different quarterbacks play on Saturday afternoon with
Joey Dominguez picking up 215 yards on 19-32 pass attempts, while
Willie Tindal was 12-18 for 114 yards. The Bearcats had two different receivers top the 100 yard mark, as
Derwyn Lauderdale hauled in 12 receptions for 135 yards and
Zachary Sohn had 10 grabs for 115 yards.
The Bearcats will continue their road trip as they head to Fort Hays State on Saturday, October 19 for the MIAA Game of the Week. Kickoff is set for 2:37 from Hays, Kansas.
