SBU Women's Basketball Begins Home Stand Against Emporia State

Bolivar, Mo. - SBU begins a two game home stand by host Emporia State on Tuesday. The Bearcats are coming off of a 65-77 loss at Lincoln, and now sit at 6-6 (1-3 MIAA) on the season.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his second season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 123-55 (.691) career coaching record (15-23 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.

Jory Collins begins his third season as the coach of the Lady Hornets. During his career he has led ESU to a 43-18 record and became the second MIAA coach to win 20 games and make the MIAA Tournament Championship Game. In 2009-10 Collins was the lead assistant for ESU as the Lady Hornets won the NCAA Division II National Championship.

ESU leads the all-time series against the Bearcats 31-12, with the Lady Hornets claiming a 70-57 victory in their last meeting.

Scouting the Bearcats
SBU returns home for a two game home stretch starting off by facing the Lady Hornets of Emporia State on Tuesday. SBU is led in scoring and rebounding by Jacqui Zelenka who averages 11.8 ppg and 9.3 rpg. The Bearcats support a balanced offense with four different players averaging over ten points per game: Jacqui Zelenka (11.8), Chasity Prince (11.3), Brook Duncan (10.3), and Brittney Dukes (10.2).

Scouting the Lady Hornets
Emporia State is coming off of a 69-54 upset over #10 Fort Hays and now sit at 6-5 (1-2 MIAA) on the season. ESU is led in scoring by Laura Patrick who averages 15.0 ppg. Rachel Hanf (10.4 ppg) and Merissa Quick (10.1 ppg) both average double figures, while Desiree Wylie pulls down a team high 8.4 rpg while scoring 6.6 ppg.
