Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats are set to begin a two game homestand when they host Emporia State on Tuesday. The Bearcats are coming off of an 81-74 victory at Lincoln and now sit at 3-9 (1-3 MIAA).
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 160-90 (.640) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Shaun Vandiver is in his 2nd year on the Hornets bench after going 9-18 in his first collegiate coaching season. Vandiver is a former first round NBA draft pick.
SBU leads the all-time series against the Hornets 27-17, while SBU claimed the last meeting 77-65 at Emporia State.
Scouting the Bearcats
SBU returns home after clinching their first MIAA victory of the season in an 81-74 victory at Lincoln. SBU is led in scoring by
Damion Hooks who averages 11.5 ppg while shooting 55.7% from the field.
Preston Guiot averages 11.4 ppg, 4.9 apg, and leads the team in three point field goals made (27) and steals (15).
Gilbert Gyamfi and
Rashaad Brown-Peterson both averages over eight points a game at 9.9 and 8.2 respectively.
Scouting the Hornets
Emporia State is coming off of a heartbreaking 79-76 OT loss to Fort Hays, and now sit at 5-6 (0-3 MIAA). Kaleb Wright leads the offensive attack for Emporia State, averaging 16.1 ppg and has a team high 31 assists. Paul Bunch leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.4 rpg, to go along with 11.8 ppg, while Chris Sights averages 10.9 ppg.
