Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team had the Lindenwood lead down to six multiple times, but were unable to finish the comeback bid as they dropped the contest 75-87.
Lindenwood came out with hot shooting to start off the game, and led by as many as 20 in the first half, as SBU went into halftime down 26-44. The Bearcats came out of halftime and started chipping away at the lead, bringing the deficit back to single digits when
Damion Hooks made a layup to cut the lead to eight at 52-60. The Bearcats would cut the lead to six multiple times during the remainder of the game, and were down only four with 2:11 to go in the contest, but SBU was unable to get a lead due to fouling as Lindenwood would go on to claim a 75-87 win.
Damion Hooks led the way for the Bearcats with a career high 28 points off of 10 of 11 shooting from the field.
Gilbert Gyamfi had 21 points, while
Preston Guiot added 14 points and 7 assists in the loss. As a team SBU shot 44.4% from the floor, 26.1% from beyond the arc, and 68.4% from the free throw line, with the Bearcats shooting 63.3% in the second half.
SBU will be back in action on Saturday, February 2 when they host Truman State. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
