SBU Men's Basketball to Host Lindenwood on Thursday

Bolivar, Mo. - SBU will look to get back to .500 in MIAA play when they host Lindenwood on Thursday. The Bearcats are coming off of an 89-88 victory over Nebraska-Kearney last Saturday.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 163-92 (.639) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Brad Soderberg is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Lindenwood men's basketball team. He is in his 17th year as a collegiate head coach, including six at the NCAA Division I level. Lindenwood is 80-19 through three seasons under Soderberg and enters the 2012-13 season with a career record of 291-166.

SBU leads the all-time series against Lindenwood 1-0, with the Bearcats claiming the sole victory last season 92-82.

Scouting the Bearcats
SBU continues their four game home stand by hosting Lindenwood on Thursday. SBU is led in scoring by Preston Guiot who averages 11.7 ppg and 5.3 apg, while Damion Hooks who averages 10.9 ppg while shooting 55.0% from the field. Gilbert Gyamfi and Rashaad Brown-Peterson both average over eight points a game at 10.1 and 8.6 respectively.

Scouting the Lions
Lindenwood comes into the game against the Bearcats with a 12-5 (5-4 MIAA) record. The Lions are led in scoring by Alex Bazzell who averages 16.9 points per game. Richie Thompson is the Lions' leading rebounder, pulling down 8.2 rebounds per game to go along with scoring 10.6 ppg, while Cody Sorenson averages 11.3 ppg.

• SBU is one of only two teams in the MIAA to play all Division II schools prior to MIAA competition.

Preston Guiot tied the MIAA record for 3-Point FG Percentage in a game when he went 7-7 against Alaska-Fairbanks on 11/23.

Damion Hooks ranks 6th in the MIAA in Field Goal Percentage, shooting 55.0% on the year.

Preston Guiot ranks 3rd in the MIAA in assists, dishing out 5.3 per game.

• Guiot also ranks 3rd in the MIAA in 3-Point FG made (2.5/G), 8th in Assist/Turnover Ratio (1.8), and 28th in Scoring (11.7 ppg).

• As a team, SBU ranks 1st in 3-Point FG made (8.2/g), 4th in the MIAA in assists (14.6 apg), and 7th in Free Throw Percentage (71.3%).

Gilbert Gyamfi ranks 7th in the MIAA in 3-Point FG Percentage (42.4%) and 11th in Free Throw Percentage (80.4%).
