SBU Women's Basketball has Dominating Performance in 91-62 Win over UNK

- The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team had a dominating performance on Saturday afternoon in Bolivar, taking down the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney 91-62. The Bearcats continued to spread the ball nicely with five different Bearcats scoring in double-figures.

The Lopers started the game on a positive note, taking an 0-8 lead over SBU before the Bearcats started to respond. After SBU's first basket at the 15:05 mark in the first half, SBU went off on Nebraska-Kearney, piling on 50 points in the final 15 minutes of the first half. The Bearcats first pushed their lead to double-digits at the 6:46 mark in the first half (30-19) when Jacqui Zelenka drained a jumper, and then quickly pushed their lead over 20 with 3:44 to go in the half (40-20) off of a layup from Brook Duncan. SBU at one point went on a 40-12 run to pull quickly away from the Lopers, and would go into the break up 50-28.

In the second half SBU continued to build upon their lead. SBU pushed their lead to 31 (50-29) by going on a 10-1 run to begin the second half, and would maintain their lead for the remainder of the game, even with all starters playing limited minutes during the second half in the blow out victory. The Bearcats pushed their lead to as high as 38 (87-49) before cruising to a 91-62 victory.

SBU had a balanced offensive attack with five different players scoring in double figures. Brittney Dukes led the way for SBU with 18 points off of 7 of 13 shooting from the field while Chasity Prince scored 16 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Brook Duncan scored 15, while Tanis Spani and Leann Lansdown both gave SBU 12 points in the victory. As a team SBU shot 54.1% from the field, 58.3% from beyond the arc, and 73.3% from the free throw line. The Bearcats had 21 assists while forcing 15 Lopers turnovers.

SBU returns to action on Thursday, January 31 when they play host to Lindenwood University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
