Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team won a thriller on Saturday afternoon defeating Nebraska-Kearney 89-88. The game went down to the wire as SBU came back from as many as nine down to claim the victory.
The game proved it would be a tight one from the beginning. After UNK went up 6-2 early in the first half, the Bearcats battled back to take a 14-11 lead. Nebraska-Kearney and Southwest Baptist would exchange mini-runs throughout most of the first half, as SBU went into halftime down two at 42-44.
The trend would continue throughout the second half as Nebraska-Kearney would eventually push their lead to a game-high 9 at 66-75 with 6:47 to go in the game. The Bearcats continued to fight, and after a layup by

Preston Guiot hit back-to-back three's to pull SBU within one at 74-75. The Bearcats would claim the lead on the next possession after a
Jaywuan Hill jumper to put SBU up 76-75. The Bearcats continued to hold a small lead, but UNK never let up. Nebraska-Kearney took a one point lead with 11 seconds to go in the contest, but Guiot drove the length of the floor, drawing a foul and hit two big free throws to put SBU up 89-88 with only three seconds to go in the contest. Nebraska-Kearney would take the ball down the court and attempt to put up a three, but the shot was not released in time as SBU went on to an 89-88 victory.
The Bearcats had four players in double figures, with
Preston Guiot leading the way with 23 points, including seven three's, and dishing out 9 assists.
Jaywuan Hill gave SBU 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Gilbert Gyami scored 17 points, and
Rashaad Brown-Peterson had 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. As a team SBU shot 45.7% from the field and 46.7% from beyond the arc. SBU out-rebounded UNK 37-28 and forced 14 turnovers in the victory.
SBU will be back in action on Thursday, January 31 when they host Lindenwood University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
