Zelenka has 5th Double-Double on the season in 66-69 loss at Central Missouri

Warrensburg, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team lost a back-and-forth battle against Central Missouri on Wednesday night, dropping the contest 66-69. Jacqui Zelenka gave the Bearcats her fifth double-double on the season, but it wasn't enough to knock off UCM at their place.

The match-up between the Jennies and the Bearcats proved to be a tight one from the beginning, as neither team led by more than five points during the game. Central Missouri got on the scoreboard first, and pushed their lead to a game high 5 (7-12) with 12:34 to go in the game, but SBU quickly responded to take the lead (13-12) with a threes from Brittney Dukes and Brook Duncan. The game continued to go back-and-forth before Tanis Spani hit a three, followed by a Zelenka bucket, as SBU went into the half up 31-27.

In the second half the Jennies quickly tied the game up at 33-33, but Zelenka responded right back with a bucket to put SBU back on top. The lead continued to bounce back-and-forth before the Jennies would take the lead for good at the 11:28 mark in the second half. The Bearcats continued to play tough, but were unable to overcome turnovers while the Jennies continued to hit free throws to seal the game.

Jacqui Zelenka gave SBU her fifth double-double on the season with a team high 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brook Duncan and Chasity Prince both also added 13 points in the loss. As a team SBU shot 49.1% from the field, 35.0% from beyond the arc, and 58.3% from the free throw line.

SBU will continue their MIAA road trip with a match-up against the Blue Tigers of Lincoln on Saturday, January 5. Tip-off from Jefferson City is set for 1:30 p.m.
