Bolivar, Mo. - SBU heads back into MIAA play at 6-4 (1-1 MIAA) and will take on the Jennies of Central Missouri. The Bearcats are coming off of a 75-54 victory over Missouri Baptist in their final non-conference game of the season.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his second season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 123-53 (.699) career coaching record (15-21 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Dave Slifer has a 154-92 record on the UCM sideline, and a 537-191 record during his 24-year coaching career. He currently ranks seventh among active coaches at the Division II level in total wins, and is one of just seven active coaches to reach the 500 wins mark.
UCM leads the all-time series against the Bearcats 47-11, with the Bearcats dropping their last match-up 60-61 at SBU last season.
Scouting the Bearcats
SBU returns to MIAA action on Tuesday when they travel to Central Missouri to take on the Jennies. SBU is led in scoring and rebounding by
Jacqui Zelenka who averages 12.3 ppg and 9.2 rpg. The Bearcats support a balanced offense with four different players averaging over ten points per game:
Brook Duncan (10.7),
Brittney Dukes (10.3), and
Chasity Prince (10.7).
Scouting the Jennies
Central Missouri begins the new year with a 9-1 (1-1 MIAA) record. UCM is led in scoring by Keuna Flax who averages 23.3 points per game in the 3 games she has played. The Jennies have three other players averages double figures with Shelby Winkelmann (17.6 ppg), BreAnna Lewis (17.2 ppg), and Nicole Caddell (12.5 ppg and 10.8 rpg).
