Bolivar, Mo. - SBU will hit the road to take on Fort Hays State before coming home to a four game homestand. The Bearcats are coming off of a 43-59 loss against Northeastern State.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his second season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 123-57 (.683) career coaching record (15-25 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Tony Hobson is in his fifth season as head coach of the Fort Hays State women's basketball program. FHSU enjoyed its best season yet under Hobson in 2011-12, going 20-9 overall with a a fifth-place finish in the MIAA and the third MIAA Tournament appearance under Hobson. It was the first time FHSU won 20 games in a season since 2005-06. He has an overall collegiate coaching record of 472-158 (.749) at the junior college, NAIA and NCAA Division II levels.
The series between the Bearcats and the Lady Tigers is tied 6-6. Fort Hays claimed the last victory during the 2011-12 season, 78-71 at SBU.
Scouting the Bearcats
SBU will hit the road to take on #21 Fort Hays on Wednesday. SBU is led in scoring and rebounding by
Jacqui Zelenka who averages 12.1 ppg and 9.6 rpg. The Bearcats support a balanced offense with four different players averaging over nine points per game:
Jacqui Zelenka (12.1),
Chasity Prince (10.6),
Brittney Dukes (10.5), and
Brook Duncan (9.1).
Scouting the Lady Tigers
Fort Hays is coming off of a tough 63-60 loss against #13 Washburn, and now sit at 10-3 (2-3 MIAA). FHSU is led in scoring and rebounding by Kate Lehman who averages 17.2 ppg and 9.0 rpg. Katelyn Edwards also puts up solid numbers, averaging 13.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg, and 2.8 apg.
