Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats are riding a three game win streak as they travel to Hays, Kansas to take on the Tigers of Fort Hays State. SBU is coming off of a 68-60 victory against Northeastern State and now sit at 5-9 (3-3 MIAA).
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 162-90 (.643) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Mark Johnson is in his 12th season as head coach of the Fort Hays State University men's basketball program. He has a career record of 226-98 in 11 seasons at Fort Hays State. He ranks among the top 20 active NCAA Division II men's basketball coaches in winning percentage (.698).
SBU leads the all-time series against the Tigers 7-6, with SBU claiming a 66-61 victory during their last meeting in 2011-12.
Scouting the Bearcats
SBU will hit the road for one game before returning home for a 4-game homestand. SBU is led in scoring by
Preston Guiot who averages 11.8 ppg and 5.0 apg, while
Damion Hooks averages 11.3 ppg while shooting 56.3% from the field.
Gilbert Gyamfi and
Rashaad Brown-Peterson both averages over eight points a game at 10.6 and 8.1 respectively.
Scouting the Tigers
Fort Hays is coming off of a 70-69 loss against #12 Washburn, and now sit at 9-4 (3-2 MIAA). FHSU supports a balanced offense with four different players averaging over 10 points per game. Dwayne Brunson leads the Tigers in both points and rebounds, averaging 15.5 ppg and 8.4 rpg. Lance Russell (13.7 ppg), Ben Congiusta (13.4 ppg), and Craig Nicholson (12.9 ppg) all average double-digits scoring efforts.
