Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats will look to extend their win streak to three games as they are set to host the Riverhawks of Northeastern State on Saturday. SBU is coming off of a 65-60 victory against Emporia State and now sit at 4-9 (2-3 MIAA).
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 161-90 (.641) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.
The 2012-13 campaign will be the 16th at Northeastern State for Larry Gipson. The long-time leader of the RiverHawk men's basketball program enters the year with a 245-179 record over his illustrious career. He is returning to the bench after having missed most of the 2011-12 season with an illness.
NSU leads the all-time series against the Bearcats 10-2, but Saturday's match-up will be the first game since the 1991-92 season.
Scouting the Bearcats
SBU continues their home stretch coming off of back-to-back wins against MIAA opponents. SBU is led in scoring by
Preston Guiot who averages 11.7 ppg and 5.0 apg, while
Damion Hooks averages 11.1 ppg while shooting 55.9% from the field.
Gilbert Gyamfi and
Rashaad Brown-Peterson both averages over eight points a game at 9.7 and 8.2 respectively.
Scouting the Riverhawks
Northeastern State is coming off of a 69-77 road loss against Central Missouri, and now sit at 10-3 (3-2 MIAA) on the season. NSU has three players averaging double figures with Bryton Hobbs leading the way, averaging 16.8 points per game and 5.1 assists per game. Jermaine Bransford is a solid presence down low, averaging 15.7 ppg and 9.5 rpg while Ethan Anderson averages 11.7 ppg.
