Bearcats Finish Out SBU Bearcat Bash with 3-1 Victory Over East Central

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team finished out the SBU Bearcat Bash with a 3-1 win over East Central after dropping a heartbreaking match against Texas A&M-Kingsville 2-3.

In the opening game against Texas A&M-Kingsville the Bearcats faught hard after going down 2-1 to force a 5th set. However it wasn't enough as Texas A&M-Kingsville went on to claim the fifth set 15-6 propelling them to victory. The Bearcats took set one 25-21 before dropping the next two 25-20 each and then forced a 5th set with a 31-29 set four win.

Mackynzi Gibson led all SBU hitters with 18 kills while Sarah Fincher and Jordan Nedbalek each had double-digit kills with 11 and 10 respectively. Whitney Miller and Kelsey Fankhauser once again split the setting duties with Miller collecting 25 assists and Fankhauser having 19, while Kaitlyn Allison had 29 digs followed by 17 from Fincher.

In the final game of the tournament, SBU came out ready to play. The Bearcats took the first two sets convincingly, 25-14 and 25-17, dropped the third set 21-25, and finished off East Central in the fourth 25-18 to claim their fourth victory on the season.

Nedbalek led the SBU offensive attack with 14 kills, while Carrie Johnson added 7. Miller gave SBU 34 assists while Allison had 16 digs followed closely by Fincher with 12.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, September 14th when they host Central Missouri. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
