St. Charles, Mo. - Southwest Baptist football fell at the hands of Lindenwood on Saturday evening 35-14. The Bearcats forced three turnovers and had one punt returned for a touchdown in the loss.
Lindenwood was quick to jump on the scoreboard, scoring the first touchdown of the game with 9:27 to go in the first quarter. Lindenwood would add two more touchdowns early in the second quarter before SBU began to battle back. With 6:50 left in the first half,
Chris Muhammad returned a punt 93 yards for a touchdown, putting SBU down 21-7. Right before the end of the first half,
Dan Connors then connected with
Justin Duhaney on an 11 yard touchdown pass to put the Bearcats down one score going into halftime at 21-14. However Lindenwood would not let the Bearats get any closer, as they would go on to a 35-14 victory.
On the defensive side of the ball the Bearcats were once again led in tackles by
Austin Otwell who collected 8 tackles against Lindenwood to go along with one sack.
Alain Pierre forced two fumbles and
Shaquille Shedd also had a forced fumbles while
Stanfred Philpot had the Bearcats lone interception. On the offensive side of the ball,
Derwyn Lauderdale had 9 receptions for 103 yards while
Dan Connors was 22-38 for 211 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, September 15 when they host defending Division II National Champion Pittsburg State. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar.
