Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats look to bounce back after a tough 14-24 loss against Truman State last Thursday. The Bearcats will travel to St. Charles, Missouri to take on Lindenwood for the first time in program history. Last week against Truman State,
Dan Connors threw for 176 yards with 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions.
Derwyn Lauderdale was the Bearcats leading receiver with 10 receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown, while
Tiras Harris was the leading rusher with 52 yards on 17 carries.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
Keith Allen has already engineered a significant turnaround at SBU, moving the 'Cats from 0-11 his first year as interim coach, to 5-6 in 2008, to the winning record of 6-5 in 2009, another winning record of 7-4 in 2010, and completed a third consecutive winning season in 2011 with a 6-5 record. Allen served as defensive and recruiting coordinator before being named SBU head coach in 2007. His past coaching experience has included stops at San Jose State, Quincy, TCU and Oklahoma.
Patrick Ross is in his ninth season at Lindenwood where he has compiled a 72-22 record. In his eleven year career, Ross has a coaching record of 88-29.
This game marks the first meeting between Southwest Baptist and Lindenwood.
Scouting the Lions
Lindenwood begins their first season in the NCAA after being a dominate force in the NAIA for the past several seasons. In their season opening win over Lincoln, quarterback Ben Gomez threw for 407 yards with 5 touchdowns. Andrew Helmick was the Lions leading receiver, grabbing six balls for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Denodus O'Bryant was the leading rusher with 75 yards off of 12 carries with 1 touchdown.
