Topeka, Kan. - The SBU Football team ran into an extremely tough road match at #20 Washburn on Saturday afternoon, losing the contest 42-14.
Washburn jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead with 10:18 left in the first quarter before SBU quickly responded with a score of their own. After a
Zach Moore fumble recovery off of an SBU punt, the Bearcats had the ball on Washburn's 22 yard line. On third and goal from the WU 9,
Dan Connors hit
Justin Duhaney for a 9 yard touchdown pass, pulling the game even at 7-7. Washburn would add three more scores in the second quarter to take a 28-7 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Bearcats held the Ichabods scoreless in the third quarter before Washburn added another touchdown to take a 35-7 lead. However the Bearcats continued to fight.
Nyran Ross took the Washburn kickoff 54 yards to the WU 26 where the Bearcats would start their drive. Backup QB
MJ Swortwood would hit
Zachary Sohn with a 13 yard pass later in the drive to put SBU on Washburn's 1 yard line. Swortwood would take it in himself a play later to cut into Washburn's lead at 35-14. Washburn would add another score to go on to the 42-14 victory.
The Bearcats will return home on Saturday, October 6th where they will take on the Hornets of Emporia State. Kickoff for SBU Homecoming is set for 2:00 p.m. from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar.
