                 Maryville, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team's comeback bid fell just short at Northwest Missouri on Friday evening, dropping the contest 3-2. The Bearcats fought hard against Northwest Missouri, forcing the game to five sets, but were unable to pull out the victory.
Northwest Missouri jumped out to a 2-0 lead taking the first two sets 25-22 and 27-25 before SBU battled back to take sets three and four 26-24 and 25-20. However Northwest was able to hold off the SBU serge and take the final set 15-13 avoiding the upset. The Bearcats played an excellent game against Northwest Missouri, who remains undefeated in MIAA play, but were unable to pull off the five set upset.
Carrie Johnson led the SBU attack with 15 kills, followed closely by 
Jordan Nedbalek who collected 14 kills while hitting .433 on the evening. Nedbalek also added a game high 7 blocks. The Bearcats had a nice spread in the backcourt, with four different SBU players with over 8 digs each. 
Kaitlyn Allison led the way with 16 digs, followed by 
Mackynzi Gibson with 10, 
Whitney Miller with 9, and 
Kelsey Beyer with 8. Miller continues to lead SBU in assists where she had 33 against Northwest Missouri. As a team, SBU collected more blocks (11-7) and had a higher hitting percentage (.214 compared to .201) than Northwest Missouri.
The Bearcats will quickly return to action on Saturday, September 29 when they travel to Missouri Western for a match-up with the Griffons. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from St. Joseph, Missouri.
