Bolivar, Mo. - Karl DuPont led the SBU Bearcat attack with two goals in the second half against a physical Lindenwood team, but SBU dropped the contest 3-2. SBU drops to 1-4 on the season while Lindenwood moves to 3-1-1.
Lindenwood jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after five minutes of play, and would take a 2-0 lead going into halftime. At the 61:37 mark, Karl DuPont took a shot off of a free kick, directing the ball to the upper right corner of the net, and cut the lead in half at 2-1. The Lions would add another goal in the half to take a 3-1 lead before DuPont struck again. At the 89:06 mark DuPont kicked in the goal from the left side when the goalie vacated the net, pulling SBU within one. However time ran out on the Bearcats as Lindenwood took the game 3-2. The Bearcats got off six shots in the loss while SBU goalkeeper,
Austin Haywood, recorded 12 saves.
"I'm proud of the effort, but disappointed not to get the result," head coach
Chris Dinwiddie stated after the game. "We recognize this is much better playing."
The Bearcats will be back in action on Thursday, September 20th when they host Upper Iowa in their second MIAA match-up of the season. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. following the women's game.
