Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist University (3-2) rode two first half goals to defeat Southern Nazarene (3-2) 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Bolivar.
The Bearcats were the first to strike 7:40 into the first half when Brittany Ready knocked in a goal right in front of the net off of a ball from
Amanda White to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats then added another goal 30 minutes later from
Taylor Schmidt on a ball up the middle from
Kate Jamison. Southern Nazarene threatened at the end of the first half when Sherri Collins netted a goal to give SBU a 2-1 halftime lead. The defense buckled down on both sides for the second half to give SBU the 2-1 victory.
The Bearcats outshot the Storm 10-9 while goalkeeper
Megan Link collected 4 saves in the victory.
"It was nice to open at home with a win and see two other players scoring for us," head coach Robert Podeyn stated after the victory. "We are continually going to look to improve and this is one of those games that we will look to learn from and get better."
The Bearcats will hit the road again to face Nebraska-Kearney on Friday, September 14. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. from Kearney, Nebraska.
