Springfield, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team began their 2012 season with a 3-1 victory over Delta State on Saturday afternoon in Springfield.
After a scoreless first half, Delta State struck first in the 51st minute to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Bearcats were quick to respond when
Karl Dupont knocked in a goal from 10 yards out, courtesy of
Kaleb Romero, only 22 seconds later to tie the game up at 1-1.
Romero continued his strong game by putting the Bearcats up 2-1 in the 61st minute by scoring from 15 yards out, followed by another goal from Romero in the 85th minute. Both assists came from Dupont, making all goals and assists coming from the tandem of Dupont and Romero. The Bearcats would go on to claim a 3-1 victory. Goalkeeper
Austin Haywood allowed only one goal while collecting 3 saves in the win.
SBU will be back in action on Monday, September 3rd when they face off against Drury University. The game is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. from Springfield, Missouri.
