Kirksville, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team picked up another sweep on the season as they took down the Bulldogs of Truman State on Friday afternoon 4-2 and 6-4. With the victories, the Bearcats move to 16-13-1 (10-8 MIAA) on the season. The Bearcats used a balanced offense attack and solid starting pitching to pick up the victories.
In game one Truman State was the first to strike, taking a 2-0 lead after 3 innings. Pitching would prove to be strong for both teams throughout a majority of the game, but the Bearcats continued to put runners on base. In the top of the sixth inning, the Bearcats finally broke through, stringing hits together, to get on the scoreboard.
Tyler Christophel led off the inning with a single, followed by an rbi double from
Jeremiah Bryan to pull SBU within one at 2-1.
Drew Miller then singled, followed by
Brendon Cox reaching base after being hit by a pitch. A wild pitch from Truman State tied the game up a 2-2 before
Ross Wolfe singled to rightfield plating Miller and Cox, giving SBU a 4-2 lead.
Mike Nielebeck finished the complete game victory for the Bearcats, allowing only 6 hits, as SBU went on to the 4-2 victory.
In the second game the Bearcats were the first to strike, quickly getting on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. Christophel led the game off with a walk, stole second, and then came home off of an rbi single by
Drew Miller, putting SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats struck again the top of the second inning when Christophel singled home
Cody Crutcher, followed by Miller's second rbi single of the day, giving SBU a 3-0 lead. Truman State responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Bearcats continued to put runs on the scoreboard, determined to come away with the day one sweep. In the top of the sixth inning
Jacob Estes led the inning of with a homerun to rightfield, reclaiming the SBU lead at 4-3. The Bearcats added runs in the seventh and ninth innings off of rbi's from Miller and
Bo Helsel, leading SBU to a 6-4 victory.
Dustin Caplette threw a solid game for SBU, pitching 8.0 innings while striking out 5 giving Caplette his fourth victory of the season.

Chris Martin stated. "We just want to give our best effort every day. I am proud of our effort today."
The Bearcats will finish off their series at Truman State tomorrow with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. from Kirksville, Missouri.
